It would be great if the Red Sox could get the All-Star pitcher Roy Halladay. This year roy has a 2.79 ERA and a record of 10-2. Over his lifetime, he’s pitched 43 complete major league games. The Toronto Blue Jays‘ GM said they’d listen to offers for Halladay. The Jays are in the same division as Boston, and Toronto would be letting him go to a division rival, but that really doesn’t matter because the Sox have so many good prospects to exchange for Halladay. I don’t think Roy would use his veto power because he wants to play in October, and there is a sellout almost every game at Fenway. The Yankees can’t get him because all the money they have already spent in the off season. There is a good chance that the Sox could get Halladay at the trading deadline.

Kevin Youkilis, and Mark Teixira are two very similar players. Youk is hitting .314, with 14 home runs and 47 RBI’s. Teixira is hitting .278, with 20 dingers and 60 RBI’s. In April, Kevin missed 13 games with an oblique injury. Even though Youk missed 13 games, I think that Mark deserves to play in the all-star game more than Youkilis. The numbers prove it. Youk is still a great player and should definitely make the all star game, but not as a starter.
Almost everything Terry Francona does is right, like sticking with David Ortiz even when he had the worst batting average in the American League.”It’s been hard on him,” Boston manager Terry Francona said. “He’s handling it better. He knows we need him. We’ve gotten a lot of pats on the back the last six years because of him, so the best thing I can do is be patient with him.” Sports radio was picking on Papi like crazy; they didn’t give him a chance. They were saying he took steroids, and then stopped, and that he was to old. On May 20th Papi broke his slump with his first home run in 149 at bats. In the last 30 games Ortiz is hitting .269, has gone yard 7 times, and has driven in 17 runs. As Terry Francona well knows the Red Sox will be different in the club house and on the field.
Red Sox fans are excited that Jed Lowrie is coming back, but maybe they are too excited. Nick Green has been great. In 2009 he has 25 RBI’s and 4 home runs already. One of those dingers happened yesterday, a big walk-off bomb against the Braves. Green is hitting .293. In 2008 Lowrie went yard onily 2 times, and drove in 46 runs, batting .258 for the season. Jed is stronger on defense with 2 errors in 689 innings in 2008. Nick Green has 9 errors in 352 innings. Although Lowrie is healthy, I wouldn’t rush to put him in the lineup.
I think Tim Wakefield is very under appreciated and should be an All-Star reliever. He helped us win a world series. He is 14 wins away from 200 wins, and he could be making more money on a different team. This year, he is 8-3 with a 4.50 ERA. In another division he could be 8-0, because the AL East is a the toughest division for pitchers. And on the Red Sox there is Josh Beckett and John Lester among other good pitchers, so it’s easy to overlook Wakefield. Admittedly, Tim is not a flame thrower, so some people think he is not as fun to watch, but I think winning is fun to watch. Plus, Wakefield is a team player. He puts his team before himself, as you can watch in the video below.
The great phenom, San Diego state Stephen Strasburg is likely to be picked by the Washington Nationals. Some people think he was the best pitcher in College baseball. His last start was a no hitter, and a sell out. The Nationals are not a very good team but he might turn help them around. His windup is very similar to Kerry Wood and Mark Prior, which could cause elbow problems.
The first two times Teixeira faced Padilla, Teixira got home run. The next at Padilla plunked him. “Every time I’ve faced him since, there seem to be balls near my head near my body.” On June second, 2009 Padilla hit Teixeira twice. Afterwards Teixeira got even by sliding hard to brake up a big double play that would have ended the inning. In the top of the fifth with one out and bases empty A.J. Burnett threw at Nelson Cruz, and then was suspended for six games. I don’t like the way Padilla plays the game. I don’t think he should throw at people because they had success against them. I’m happy the Rangers put Padilla on waivers. Padilla just pitched at Fenway; good thing he didn’t hit any Red Sox players.
Last Thursday, Papi stranded twelve men on base as he went 0-7 at the plate. He got three days off after that nightmarish game. On Tuesday, Tito put him back in the lineup, and Ortiz went 0-3 with two strike outs and a walk. So far, the fans are supporting Big Papi when he is at bat, but
Red Sox Nation is not known for its patience. If Ortiz’s slump continues, I do not think Theo will keep him, and we will need a replacement. I think Magglio Ordonez would be a perfect fit. He hits for power and he may be available. Of course, if we get rid of Papi the Red Sox will not be the same, and, if he starts hitting fifty-four home runs for the Jays, we will not be happy.
